Pre treatment:
- Plan your treatment 3-4 weeks before any major event.
- Avoid blood thinners (e.g., Aspirin, Aleve) 3-5 days prior; inform us about chronic blood thinner use.
- Cease herbal medications and teas 3-5 days before; these may include fish oils, green tea, and ginseng.
- Reduce high doses of Vitamin E or other vitamins 2 weeks ahead; consider continuing a multivitamin.
- Limit alcohol intake 2 days prior to reduce bruising risk, and avoid blood thinners like Advil and Aspirin.
Post treatment:
- Using a cold pack or ice on the treatment area(s) immediately after will aid in reducing swelling and discomfort. It is recommended to ice intermittently. Arnica may be taken as a supplement to assist with bruising & swelling. Keep your head elevated above your heart for 4 hours after your procedure.
- Do not perform strenuous exercise immediately after your treatment. You can resume all normal activities the next day. Avoid facials or excessive heat after your treatment, such as saunas or steam rooms. Feel free to shower and go about most other regular daily activities.
Onset & Duration:
- It takes 7-14 days for the full results of neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, etc.) to take effect. Please be patient. You will not see any difference immediately after treatment.
- Neuromodulators typically last up to 3-4 months in most patients. However, results vary per patient and can last less or more than the average duration. The duration of the effects depends on how strong your facial muscles are, how expressive your face is, your metabolic rate, and the product used.
Swelling/ Bruising:
- Any tiny bumps or needle marks will go away within a few hours. Although bruising is not as common, it can still happen. Bruises or residual marks may be covered with makeup, but please wait for 24 hours and use a gentle touch to avoid rubbing the treated area.
Cold Sores
- If you have had cold sores or oral herpetic infection in the past, any treatment to your face can trigger reactivation. We recommend taking an antiviral medication such as Acyclovir in advance of your treatment and for several days afterward to reduce this risk. If this applies to you, please discuss it with your provider
Follow Up
- Please schedule your follow-up visit for 2 weeks from your treatment date to ensure the best results of long-term facial rejuvenation. It is recommended to schedule your next neuromodulator appointment every 3-4 months.

Pre treatment:
- Sun exposure and/or tanning bed usage, including self-tanning products, must be avoided for at least 24 hours before and after the treatment, preferably 1 week. Treatment within 24 hours of prolonged sun exposure (natural sunlight, artificial tanning booth, or sunless tanning products) may result in hypopigmentation (white spots) or hyperpigmentation (dark spots) that may not clear for several months or may even be permanent. Treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin.
- The area to be treated must be clean and free of any lotion, makeup, and sunscreen. Face must be clean for appointment.
- Retin-A, Renova, and Tazorac must not be used for 1 week before or after treatment.
- Waxing and/or using chemical depilatory products must be avoided for 2 weeks before and after the treatment. Shaving is allowed immediately before treatment and 48-72 hours after treatment as long as no skin irritation occurs.
- Notify the provider of any tattoos, including cosmetic tattooing, in the vicinity of the area to be treated as tattoos must be avoided.
- During your treatments, notify our staff of any changes to your medical history, health status, or personal activities that may be relevant to your treatment.
Post treatment:
- Immediately after treatment, the skin may look and feel sunburned for 1-3 days. Severity of redness and swelling varies per patient. The skin may feel tight, dry, swollen, and sensitive to the touch. The treated area may appear darker, and some patients experience skin flaking or purging. Wash the treated area with tepid water gently twice a day with a gentle cleanser. Depending on your skin type and treatment plan, a specific skin regimen may be curated for you. Apply soothing, healing balm 2-3 times daily and as often as needed for the first few days. Advil or Tylenol may be taken as necessary for discomfort. Ice packs may be used if desired to minimize swelling.
Duration
- Results are long-lasting as this treatment initiates collagen production. We recommend doing a series of 3-4 treatments a year for collagen stacking to achieve optimal results.
What To Avoid
- Avoid picking or exfoliating the area and allow old skin to flake off naturally.
- Direct sun exposure must be avoided for at least 1 week after treatment. If you know you will get incidental sun exposure, i.e., driving to and from work, walking from your car to the house, etc., we recommend physical avoidance of the sun in all treated areas, a protective hat, and a full spectrum sun block of SPF 30 or higher with at least 20% zinc oxide. Do not use exfoliating medications, chemicals, or products, such as retinol and retin-A, on the treated areas for at least 1 week. Avoid exercise that causes sweating until the skin returns to normal. Avoid excessive heat such as Jacuzzi, sauna, or steam baths until the skin returns to normal. It is recommended that makeup not be applied for 24 hours after the procedure.
